National Day of the State of Qatar
It was a time of tribal wars on land, piracy and plundering operations at sea, and a time of decline of the Ottoman Sultanate and the fading of its power. The celebration of National Day falls on the eighteenth of December every year, which is the date on which the late Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the founder of modern Qatar, assumed power in the country in 1878.
What do people do on Qatar National Day?
In the month of December, many celebrations are held to introduce and appreciate Qatar’s heritage, the authentic customs and traditions of Qatari society, and pride in the country.
